After going through all the film trailers that were nominated in the horror/thriller genre of the golden trailer awards I noticed several key themes running through the more successful trailers. The first thing I noticed from most of these trailers is the unique use of lighting or rather darkness which is used to create a more evil and sinister atmosphere within the trailer. Examples of this is were 'Mama' and 'The last exorcism part 2'. Another key feature that occurred throughout all of the horror trailers is the vast use of jump cuts. This is used to keep the audience nervous and not being fully prepared for what is going to pop up next for a minor scare factor within the trailer. Another key feature used within the majority of horror trailers nominated for the golden trailer awards was that all of their musical pieces used sounded rather familiar. These musical pieces consisted of a deep booming bass to create an uneasy atmosphere accompanied with a high pitch sounds to make the audience feel uneasy and on the edge of their seat an example of this from within the golden trailer awards is 'Mama'.
When making my trailer I will keep all of these factors in mind but also try to challenge some of them in order to make my trailer unique to this market.
